28th Annual Trek Across Maine

This Weekend: American Lung Association’s  28th annual Trek Across Maine Who: American Lung Association of the Northeast, more than 2,500 cyclists, and 700 volunteers. What: Participants will bike 180 miles in 3 days to raise money for the American Lung Association. When: Friday, June 15 – Sunday June 17. Cyclists take off at 7 a.m. each morning and return anywhere from  1 to 3 p.m. Where: Friday start line: Sunday River Ski Resort, 15 S. Ridge Rd., Newry Friday finish/Saturday start: University of Maine, 224 Main St., Farmington Saturday finish/Sunday start: Colby College, 4000 Mayflower Hill Dr., Waterville Sunday finish line: Steamboat Landing Park, 43 Front Street, Belfast   2012 Trek Across Maine schedule 2012 Trek Across Maine route maps/Trekker itinerary Why: For over 100 years, the American Lung Association has been at the forefront in the Fight for Air. In Maine, an estimated 176,840 people suffer from lung diseases including asthma, lung cancer, and chronic obstructive  pulmonary disease (COPD). Events are being held nationwide in an effort to bring attention to the devastating  effects of lung disease. All proceeds from the Trek Across Maine directly fund lung disease research, advocacy,  and education; including COPD/asthma management, smoking cessation programs, and advocacy for stronger  clean air standards. Note to editors: There will be opportunities to film and photograph Trek participants. Spokespersons from the  American Lung Association, as well as people and families affected by lung disease will be on hand for media interviews.
