City of Rockland’s Downtown Streetscapes

Information from the City of Rockland regarding the
Streetscape work that is starting today, Monday Sept 10th, 2012.

Work will resume on the City of Rockland’s Downtown Streetscapes Project Monday, September 10, 2012. This is sooner than had been anticipated due to the requirement by the Maine Department of Transportation that the City close out work on MaineDOT-funded projects by October 15, 2012.
In order to ensure work is completed by this deadline, and to avoid disrupting the Columbus Day Holiday as well as the cruise ship visits to Rockland scheduled for late September and early October; we determined that resuming work on September 10 would be the most advantageous time to complete the work and then move off Main Street with as little disruption as possible.
We expect this work to be complete by September 27.
Work will include:
          Installing a new crosswalk at the east end of Lindsey Street;
          Installing a new crosswalk across Main Street at Lindsey Street;
          Repair work to the sidewalk in front of Rockland CafĂ©
          Relocating two street lights and a fire hydrant on the east side of Main Street in the bump out (between Lindsey & Summer streets); and
♦          Fixing and/or repairing any work that was not satisfactorily done earlier this year.
We are taking every precaution to minimize disruptions to businesses in the Downtown area by enabling vehicles and pedestrians to move freely, have plenty of parking, and provide good signage. Only one lane at a time will be closed so that traffic will continue to flow on Main Street.
Be assured we will continue to promote Downtown Rockland as open for business.
