Ellsworth, Maine - Summer is here and the time is right for having fun in the most dramatic way possible! The Grand, downtown Ellsworth’s historic 1938 art-deco theatre, is excited to announce the program for its 2012 School of Performing Arts Summer Theatre Camp for youth ages 7-17. The Grand Summer Theatre camp will be directed by Adam Cousins and Katie Toole.
Camp Schedule:
• Youth Camp- This camp for ages 7-11 will run from August 6th through August 17th (9-3, Mon-Fri only) and will result in a show written by the participating teens from Teen Camp based on classic children’s stories. The show will be performed on Friday August 17th at 7pm and Saturday August 18th at 12pm.
• Teen Camp- For Teens 12-17, this camp will run from July 2nd through July 20th (9-3, Mon-Fri only) and will result in a performance of Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” performed on Friday July 20th at 7pm and Saturday July 21st at 12pm. Please note there is no camp on July 4th.
• Teen Camp Showcase – All teen campers will present a showcase of scenes, music and dance learned in their camp studies.
About Theatre Camp Directors Adam Cousins and Katie Toole: Adam is the president of Ten Bucks Theater Company of Bangor, and has performed in several shows and readings during their season, in addition to making appearances on the stages of Penobscot Theater, The Grand, and Bangor Community Theater. Katie, as well as being a member of Ten Bucks, has taught and co-directed the Drama Club at Ellsworth High School and currently teaches at Conners-Emerson School in Bar Harbor.
Both the Teen Camp and Youth Camp will consist of morning workshops in theatre arts (scene study, set design, costuming, music, dance) and afternoon rehearsals for an end-of-camp performance.
Registration is $250 for Youth Camp and $350 for Teen Camp. The deadline for registration is June 15th and the fees must be in paid in full with submission of the registration form. Thanks to community donations, the Grand is able to offer a limited number of scholarships for youth in need.
