Blue Hill, Maine - Why has Blue Hill Public Library’s Pat Horton been spotted around town in her pajamas recently? Because she has been visiting schools (yes—in her pajamas along with her teddy ......bear, also in his pajamas!) to promote the Library’s summer reading program, Dream Big, READ! All summer long (through August 18th) there will be events, story hours and activities around the themes of dreaming and nighttime.
On Saturday, June 16th at 11:00 AM, there will be a kickoff party for the program with snacks, crafts and activities where kids can learn about the program, sign-up and receive all the materials they need to get started. After that, kids can stop by the library anytime to sign-up. Kids will get prizes for the number of books they read over the summer and there will be a party at the end of the program in August.
As part of Dream Big, READ!, the Library has invited Northern Stars Planetarium to present programs for two different age groups, using an inflatable theater that utilizes a star projector, slides, video, special effects, and a sound system. The programs will be at The Bay School's Emlen Hall on Thursday, June 21st. At 6:30 the planetarium will present Star Stories, suggested for K- 2nd grade, a collection of stories, myths, and legends about the sky and constellations. At 7:30 PM there will be live storytelling, suggested for 3rd grade and older, of Greek and Roman myths about the stars, a great introduction to classical mythology.
Participation in the reading program is not necessary to attend the planetarium events. Anyone who wants to go should sign-up using the Library’s events calendar at www.bhpl.net, or call the Library at 374-5515. All programs are free of charge thanks to The Friends of The Library.
