New Early Childhood Music and Movement Collection at the Blue Hill Public Library
Blue Hill, Maine - The Blue Hill Public Library announced a new “Early Childhood Music and Movement” collection of materials for checkout by patrons. The collection is made possible by a grant from the Rose and Samuel Rudman Library Trust of the Maine Community Foundation. The trust was established in 1986 to help libraries better serve smaller communities in Maine.
The collection complements the recent Music and Movement sessions taught by early childhood music educator Deborah Reinke that was paid for by the Friends of the Library. Included are kits containing music cds and items such as ankle or wrist bells, plastic percussion “egg shakers,” bean bags for coordination, and colorful scarves. In addition to music, the cds provide instruction and ideas for fun activities to do with each type of item. Also in the collection are songbooks with accompanying cds; and an early childhood music curriculum guide for parents, teachers and caregivers, called Music Play, which also comes with its own cd.
A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth, Augusta and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation has been partnering donors and nonprofits to strengthen Maine communities for 25 years. For more information, visit www.mainecf.org or call 1-877-700-6800.
