Miss Maine Board Announces Judging Panel
Executive Director Gene Gagne, on behalf of the Miss Maine Scholarship Program Board of Directors, announced the 2012 Panel of Judges who will determine the next Miss Maine and Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen. This year’s pageant, to be held at the Crooker Theater at Brunswick High School on June 15 and 16, 2016, marks the 76th Anniversary of the Miss Maine Pageant.
Marcia Hecox had been a member of the Miss Nebraska Board of Directors for the past 28 years. She received her degrees from the University of Nebraska. Marsha had taught for many years in the Gothenburg Public School system but put her teaching career in retirement and started a new career in retail. She built and opened an espresso and gift boutique. Marsha has served on many community boards including charter member of the Parent-Child Center and charter member of Meals on Wheels. She resides in Gothenburg with her husband Jim where they are engaged in a farming and ranching operation.
Linda Sawyer Pearmine has spent her life working in modeling, personal appearances and self-improvement industries. She has sung professionally. The mother of four, Linda has operated modeling agencies and produced an array of fashion shows and beauty pageants. Currently living in Oregon, Linda has enjoyed the life experience of living in different parts of the country, living in Maine from 1986-1998. Currently she serves on the boards of several nonprofit organizations.
Steve Wilson is a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and retired after 27 years of service to AT&T. He is a member of the Miss America prep team for Miss Missouri and a member of the Miss Florida judges’ panel which selected Erika Dunlap, who later went on to become Miss America 2004.
Sonya Gavankar is a television personality whose career has spanned diverse programs from international food shows to hard news. In her free time, Ms. Gavankar goes behind the camera, and her photography has been shown in several Washington area galleries. Sonya is a casting director for independent films. Additionally she served for five years as the President of the High O’Brian Youth Leadership Foundation in Washington, D. C. In 1997 she represented Washington D.C. in the Miss America Pageant and produces the annual Miss D. C. pageant held at the historic Lincoln Theater. Ms. Gavankar holds a degree in broadcast journalism from The American University.
Brenda Verceles Donroe was crowned Miss Maine 1968 and for seven years was Executive Producer and Choreographer for the Miss Maine Pageant when it was held in Bangor. She received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Maine at Orono. Mrs. Donroe is currently Associate Director of Risk Management for the Diocese of Manchester (NH). Married for 40 years, she and her husband Bill have two children and three grandchildren. Brenda has completed three 60-mile walks and a marathon in support of breast cancer research, treatment, and care.
The Miss Maine Scholarship Program, the official state preliminary to Miss America, is a not-for-profit organization which maintains a tradition of empowering young women to achieve professional and personal goals.
Miss Maine receives thousands of dollars in college scholarships, as well as a paid trip to compete for Miss America. Each contestant, regardless of placement, earns valuable college assistance. Last year, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations made available more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance. This assistance is not just for the handful of young women who become Miss America, but is available to the over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local competitions as well.

Advanced tickets are $35 for bundle seats (both nights) and are reserved seating. Individual nights are $20 each and can be purchased at the door. All tickets are by cash or check only (payable to MMSP). Please include a self-addressed stamped envelope to receive your tickets or they can be picked up at the door. The show starts at 7 PM both nights.
