Karate Kids Raise Money for Healthcare for Local Children
Jake and Juliann Lapierre, brother and sister karate students from Winslow have been announced as the top fundraisers at The Battle of Maine Marital Arts Championships for the third consecutive year. Jake and Juliann raised $1,666 through donations from area businesses and individuals, surpassing their goal of $1,500 to support pediatric healthcare in central, eastern, and northern Maine.
The thirty-second annual Battle of Maine, a prestigious annual competitive event for karate enthusiasts across New England, was held this spring in Winslow. This year, the Battle of Maine continued its long tradition of supporting healthcare for local children by raising more than $5,000 for EMHS Healthcare Charities Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, bringing the cumulative grand total to more than $53,000.
Event organizer Mark Huard commented, “Battle of Maine is proud to support EMHS Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals because we know the importance of having excellent quality healthcare for children that’s close to home.”
As for Jake and Juliann, “these kids have done a great job,” Huard said. “We are all so very proud of what they have done to help kids in need.”
