Calling All Wooden Boat Lovers and Sailing Enthusiasts
Are you looking to contribute your time and talent in a way that has an impact on the community? Do you have an hour or two per week that you’d like to spend making a difference? The Apprenticeshop wants to meet you!
The Apprenticeshop is a school for traditional boatbuilding and seamanship, located on Main Street in Rockland. Our mission is to inspire personal growth through wooden boat craftsmanship, community and traditions of the sea. We serve over 1,000 people in the community annually, through classes in wooden boatbuilding and sailing. Our youth sailing program, Rockland Community Sailing, puts youth in Optimist prams and 420 sailing dinghies and teaches them how to sail. If you are passionate about traditional boats, sailing, and inspiring youth to be their best selves, we need your help!
A small staff and a lot of waterfront acreage means we need volunteers to help deliver the mission. Our goal is to match you with a job that is meaningful both to you and to the organization. Immediate volunteer opportunities on the waterfront include fleet maintenance, buildings and grounds stewardship, and dock stewardship. We need help with events management throughout the summer, including regattas and public programs. In the boatbuilding shop, we need help with workshop and class preparations and tool and infrastructure maintenance. We need docents in summer to help manage visitors and act as guides. Year-round office help is always needed, including data entry, reception and library archiving. These are just a few of the myriad things on the to-do list. We also want to hear what your skills are and see how they can help serve the mission.
Whether you can help on a regular or a short-term basis, please join us for an introductory evening to hear about The Apprenticeshop, Rockland Community Sailing and the volunteer opportunities where your time will make a big impact: Thursday, June 14, from 6-7 pm at 643 Main Street, Rockland. Can’t make it that night? Let us know you’re interested anyway by emailing us at info@apprenticeshop.org or calling weekdays 594-1800.
