Trekkers to Host ‘Pedal to the Port’ Benefit Bicycle Ride in Midcoast
Trekkers, a youth mentoring nonprofit in the Midcoast, is holding its fourth annual Pedal to the Port bicycle ride Saturday, June 9th. Drawing more than 80 riders for last year’s event, Pedal to the Port features three coastal routes along the St. George peninsula.
Ideal as training rides for the Trek Across Maine, the 45 and 35 mile routes feature the historic Marshall Point Lighthouse in the village of Port Clyde. The event also offers a family-friendly 12 mile option. All routes begin and end at the Oceanside West (formerly Georges Valley) High School in Thomaston. Riders will receive a Pedal to the Port T-shirt and be welcome to the post-ride cookout luncheon.
The registration fee is $25 per individual rider (or $20 per member of a team of four or more), plus a minimum of $75 in pledges. Riders can register online by visiting www.pedaltotheport.com, or they can contact the Trekkers office to request a mailed registration form. Riders also can register at Oceanside West High School the morning of the ride, beginning at 7:45 a.m. The ride will begin at 9:00 a.m.
Pedal to the Port provides crucial financial support to Trekkers. Founded in 1994, Trekkers is a nonprofit, outdoor-based mentoring organization that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. Each year, the organization serves more than 160 youth and involves more than 100 adult volunteers from the communities of St. George, Thomaston, Cushing, Rockland, South Thomaston and Owls Head.
