137.6 Pounds of Unwanted Medication Collected in Rockland

137.6 Pounds of Unwanted Medication Collected in Rockland

Rockland, Maine - On Saturday, April 28, the Rockland Police Department and Rockland District Nursing Association (RDNA) collected 137.6 pounds of unwanted medications during the fourth National Take-Back drug event sponsored by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).  This was the fifth collection hosted by the Rockland PD and RDNA.  Warmest thanks go to the partner agencies (Knox County Community Health Coalition - the Healthy Maine Partnership serving Knox County, PenBay Healthcare, Penquis, Knox EMA, and the Midcoast District – ME CDC) for their time and support, and to the over 100 residents and facilities who brought medications to Rockland City Hall.  Nationally, the US DEA reports that more than 552,161 pounds (276 tons) were turned in at 5,659 take-back sites.  Participation continues to exceed expectations, underscoring the continuing community need for safe, accessible means of disposal, thereby protecting our environment and each other.
