THE DANCE HALL CARNIVAL!

THE DANCE HALL CARNIVAL!

Kittery, Maine - On Saturday, June 2, The Dance Hall in Kittery will have its first anniversary fundraiser, The Dance Hall Carnivale! celebrating the historic landmark Kittery Grange Hall, serving the community since 1928. The evening will begin with a wine and food reception to unveil a mural in the lobby of the Hall. Commissioned by Cary Mabley and created by noted muralist Gordon Carlisle, the paintings harken back to the early days of the Grange Hall when farmers, sailors and other fine folk gathered for community events.

Following the reception, there will be a short performance by a number of The Dance Hall's teaching dance artists with music by the hot local band, Aporkalypse Now featuring Jonny Peiffer, Matt Langley and Mike Effenberger among others.

A dance and music party follows!

The Dance Hall opened it's doors in April 2011 offering sample classes free to the community. Since then over 2000 people, of all ages, have attended live dance and music events: from West African dance and drumming to the American art of tap dance; ballet to belly; and Taiko to Salsa. Performances have included the locally grown groundbreaking multi-media event In Ears 'N' Eyes; the legendary jazz of The Fringe, broadcast live on Portsmouth Community radio; Ring in The Rhythm: A jazz & Tap Holiday and the recent Middle Eastern belly dance event, Cairo in Kittery.

The Dance Hall extends cross-cultural opportunities presenting artists from around the world and has provided the downtown community with a venue for  events, a meeting place for other non-profits, and a space for artists to create new work. It is place to teach and learn, experience and grow, be inspired and find joy, a place for community to come together in celebration.
