Sea Dogs score 7 runs late, but suffer 8-7 loss in Reading

Portland with 14 hits, bullpen 4.2 IP and one run 
Reading, PA - The Portland Sea Dogs (26-43) rallied back from an early 7-0 deficit, but lost to the Reading Fightin Phils (36-32), 8-7, on Father's Day at FirstEnergy Stadium. Portland has lost consecutive one-run games in Reading.

Trailing 8-6 in the ninth inning, Aneury Tavarez (3-for-5) led off with a double and scored on a two-out single by Marco Hernandez (2-for-6). Carlos Asuaje drew a walk, but Tyler Knigge (save #2) fanned Jantzen Witte to end the game.

Reading scored seven times off losing pitcher Mike Augliera (2-11) in just 3.1 innings pitched.  Art Charles went 2-for-4, 4 RBI and has 6 RBI in the series. Aaron Altherr and Kelly Dugan finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Augliera gave up nine hits, seven runs (five earned) on one walk and a solo-homer to Logan Moore.

Jesse Biddle (7-1) worked five scoreless for the win, despite five walks and two hits, but fanned four and stranded eight runners.

The Sea Dogs made their noise off Reading's bullpen scoring seven runs and picking up 11 hits off the 'pen. Cole Sturgeon (2-for-5) put Portland on the board with an RBI double off Joely Rodriguez in the sixth. Hernandez added an infield-RBI single, and a balk, cut the deficit to 7-3.

Trailing 8-3 in the seventh, the 'Dogs scored three times off Colton Murray. David Chester began the seventh with a long homer to centerfield. Chester has three of his six homers over his last six games. Later in the frame, Danny Bethea (2-for-5) added a two-run single to close the game to 8-6.

Portland had 14 hits, left 14 runners on base and went 5-for-19 with runners-in-scoring position.

Kyle Kraus worked 3.2 innings of relief on 3 hits and run. Madison Younginer pitcher a scoreless eight.

The Sea Dogs and Fightin Phils conclude their four-game series on Monday night beginning at 7:05 PM.  RHP Heri Quevedo (0-3, 9.58) makes his fourth start of the season for Portland. RHP Zach Eflin (4-4, 2.99) gets the call for Reading. Pre-Game coverage begins at 6:45 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network.
