Juke Rockets July 14 in Camden Amphitheatre

2015 promises to be the best year yet for the Juke Rockets Blues Band. Winners of the Maine Blues Society’s “Road to Memphis” competition in 2012, 2013, and 2015, the Juke Rockets represented Maine in the Blues Foundation’s International Blues Competition in Memphis Tennessee in 2013 and 2014 and are excited to be returning in 2016. They were also awarded the People’s Choice Award in Waldo County in 2014. The Juke Rockets will be bringing their high-energy blues to the Camden Amphitheatre on Tuesday evening, July 14, at 7:00 pm. Bring blankets or chairs for comfortable seating, and shoes for dancing! The concert is free, although we will pass the hat.

The Juke Rockets band is made up of powerhouse lead vocalist Carlene Thornton fronting a tight unit driven by a gotta-dance rhythm section with Steve Mellor on bass and Tim Woitowitz on drums, while newest member and bluesman extraordinaire Ron Casillo plays the tastiest guitar licks north of the chitlin circuit.

The band has also distinguished itself through a series of high profile gigs, opening for such stellar acts as Shemekia Copeland and Teeny Tucker at Rockland’s Samoset Resort and playing dead-center Main street for the North Atlantic Blues Festival Pub Crawl for several years running. From New Year’s Eve shows in downtown Bangor to appearances at Hollywood Casino, the band commands an enthusiastic following throughout central and eastern Maine and beyond. In July 2014 the group traveled to southern Maine to open for the Portland Seadogs at Hadlock Field. In August they played the International Festival in Calais before headlining a concert at a festival in Andover, Massachusetts in September. You can check on their schedule, and more, at their website: www.jukerockets.com

In addition to their legacy of playing exciting live shows, on April 7, 2015 the Juke Rockets released their first album of original songs titled “Hungry Soul.” Recorded by Glen Dubois at Sunset House Studios and mixed & mastered by Vince Gabriel of “Blind Albert” fame, the CD will be on sale at all their shows this year. Always ready and willing to help their neighbors by supporting community projects, the Juke Rockets have played fund raisers for Habitat for Humanity, Autism Awareness, Hospice Volunteers of Waldo County, the Cancer Support Center and the Belfast YMCA.
