'Dogs lose late lead, fall 3-1 in New Hampshire

Manchester, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (32-38) scored three times in the final two innings and beat the Sea Dogs (27-45), 3-1, Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The 'Dogs are now 2-4 on their 8-game roadtrip.

K.C. Hobson delivered the crushing blow, blasting a two-run homer off losing pitcher Miguel Celestino (0-1) in the seventh, giving New Hampshire a 2-1 lead. In the eighth, the 'Cats added an unearned run on a run-scoring single by Shane Opitz.

Former Major Leaguer Joel Pineiro (3-2) worked seven innings on one run and eight hits to earn the win. Blake McFarland closed out the game with two perfect innings, fanning five batters, to earn his 10th save of the season. McFarland entered the game with two in scoring position, but fanned Carlos Asuaje, Jantzen Witte and David Chester.

Justin Haley was outstanding for Portland in a no-decision. Haley fired six scoreless on four hits and seven strikeouts.

Luis Martinez knocked home Portland's lone run, delivering an RBI double to right, scoring Aneury Tavarez. Marco Hernandez and Cole Sturgeon each had two hits for the Sea Dogs.

The series continues tomorrow night at 7:05, Luis Diaz (0-6, 6.79) makes the start for Portland while Joel Pineiro (2-2, 3.94) is scheduled to start for New Hampshire. Pre-Game coverage begins at 6:45 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network.
