Hundreds Gather For Annual Rockland Summer Solstice

Rockland, Maine - Hundreds of people filled Main Street for Rockland's annual Summer Solstice held on Saturday, June 20th, 2015 in Rockland, Maine from 4-8pm. This event is put on by Rockland Main Street INC and sponsored by Island Institute.

At this year's event there were things for everyone from food vendors to dance performances by students of Rockland School of Ballet and the highlight of the evening, Studio Red. Another highlight was the oh so popular Whoopie Pie eating contest. There was also a 5k road race, flash dance, music and more.

Maine Lobster Festival's giant fiberglass Lobster was there to promote the annual event that takes
place during the first weekend of August. The festival this year runs from July 29-August 2nd at Rockland's Harbor Park.

Summer Solstice Celebration is hosted by Rockland Main Street, Inc.  Main Street in between Park & Summer Streets is closed for this fun family event.

Downtown restaurants, food specialty shops along with retail shops will be participating on Main Street with Food, Solstice Sidewalk Sales, and Entertainment and Activities. Maine's "Official Treat" is featured in The Whoopie Pie Eating Contest.  Street Entertainment featuring local groups perform throughout the evening on the street. If it is music you come to Summer Solstice for, Paul Benjamin, North Atlantic Blues Festival, has brought back Summer Solstice favorite bands along Main Street with a wide variety of types of music.

This event is proudly produced by Rockland Main Street, Inc., preserving & protecting Rockland's unique sense of place, and making Rockland a great place to live, work and play.
