Mayor Brennan & City Officials Meet with Nova Scotia Officials to Further Foster Relations

Portland, Maine - Mayor Michael Brennan and City of Portland officials met today with Nova Scotia transportation officials to further foster relations. The Nova Scotia officials came to Portland via the Nova Star Ferry to discuss the Canadian province's commitment to the ferry, which is now in its second season of operation.

"It was helpful to meet with the Canadian officials in order to discuss the operation of the Nova Star Ferry and the impact it has on Portland," said Mayor Michael Brennan. "The City of Portland has made investments to enable the ferry's success through the use of the Ocean Gateway Terminal, which is important to the city and state's tourism industry. We remain committed to having a strong partnership to ensure the future of ferry service between Yarmouth, NS and Portland."

Mayor Brennan added, "I was pleased to learn that Bar Harbor is no longer under consideration for the ferry service. The ferry service is a tremendous benefit to both Portland and Yarmouth. I look forward to continuing our work together."

The ferry service passenger projections expect that more than 80,000 people will travel between Portland and Yarmouth, NS this season.
