Trekkers Presents “Living the Art Of Stewardship” With Greg Mort on July 15

Rockland, Maine - Trekkers will be hosting a special presentation, “Living the Art of Stewardship” on Wednesday, July 15 at the Strand Theatre. Featured guest speaker will be Mr. Greg Mort, a well-known contemporary artist and amateur astronomer, whose paintings have been the subject of numerous exhibitions. Mr. Mort will share his reflections on the impact the natural world has had upon him and his artwork, as well as his passion to inspire others to enjoy and preserve the Earth's gifts.

Finding one’s passions and learning to appreciate the environment by using nature as a classroom and the earth as teacher are integral components of the Trekkers’ model. These are themes that are incorporated in Trekkers’ programs and are integrated into the six-year core program to broaden and expand students’ life experience. Trekkers’ six-year program builds mentoring relationships through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. Since 1994, Trekkers has worked with over 650 students, providing unique long-term mentoring services, educational programs and academic support.

The evening of celebration will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a pre-event reception at the Island Institute
Gallery at 386 Main Street in Rockland, where reception attendees will have the opportunity to meet and greet Greg Mort. Reception attendees will also receive preferred seating for the event at the Strand Theatre.

There will be a special door prize for the Strand Theatre attendees, a framed print of Greg Mort’s watercolor, titled “Stewardship.”  Mr. Mort will also be giving a lithograph of “Stewardship” to each attendee of the pre-event reception at the Island Institute Gallery.

Tickets for the public event (from 7 to 9 p.m.) at the Strand Theatre with general seating are $20; doors open at 6:30 p.m. The pre-event reception tickets for the Island Institute Gallery (with preferred seating at the Strand Theatre) are $45 each. Greg Mort is a widely recognized American contemporary artist whose unmistakably modern creations have the classic feel of the Dutch Masters juxtaposed with startlingly modern designs. His signature images combine his twin passions for science and nature. Mort’s art is in many prominent collections including the Smithsonian, National Gallery of Art, Delaware Art Museum, Farnsworth Museum, Academy Art Museum, Portland Museum of Art, Brandywine River Museum and the White House. In 2003, he established The Art of Stewardship Project, a foundation that supports and encourages environmental awareness through the arts.
