The Grand's Summer CineGrand Films Are Cool!

Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand announces the line-up for its weekly Summer CineGrand series on Tuesday nights at 7:30 pm, beginning July 7th and running through August 25th. Ticket prices are for general admission seating for each movie and are $7 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 for Grand members.

July 7th – Selma. David Oyelowo stars in one of the nominees for this year's Best Picture Oscar™ as the revered leader and visionary Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., as the film tells the real story of how he and his brothers and sisters in the movement prompted change that forever altered history. John Ridley and Common won the Best Original Song Oscar® for their theme "Glory". Carmen Ejogo, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Wilkinson, Tim Roth, Martin Sheen, and Wendell Pierce co-star.

July 14th –  Into the Woods. From the director of Chicago and Nine and the composer of Sweeney Todd, comes a modern musical twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales adapting the classic tales of Cinderella (Anna Kendrick), Little Red Riding Hood (Lilla Crawford), Jack (Daniel Huttlestone) and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel (MacKenzie Mauzy) and ties them together with an original story involving a baker and his wife's (James Corden and Emily Blunt) wish to begin a family –  a wish with the witch (Meryl Streep) who has put a curse on them. With Chris Pine, Tracey Ullman, Christine Baranski, Simon Russell Beale, and Johnny Depp as "The Wolf".

July 21st – The Imitation Game. Benedict Cumberbatch portrays real-life hero and genius Alan Turing, a mathematician and crypto-analyst who under nail-biting pressure helped to shorten the war and, in turn, save thousands of lives.  With Kiera Knightley, Mark Strong, Matthew Goode, and Charles Dance.

July 28th – Whiplash. J.K. Simmons won this year's Best Supporting Actor Oscar® for his performance as Terence Fletcher, a college jazz band instructor equally known for his teaching talents as for his terrifying methods, who bullies/teaches Andrew Neyman (Miles Teller,) an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. With Paul Reiser and Chris Mulkey.

August 4th –  The Second Best Marigold Hotel. Now that The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is full up with its long-term residents, co-managers Muriel Donnelly (Maggie Smith) and Sonny Kapoor (Dev Patel) have a dream of expansion, and they've found just the place: The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. With returning and new guests Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Richard Gere, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, David Strathairn, and Tamsin Greig.

August 11th – The Last Five Years. An adaptation of the hit Jason Robert Brown musical (and winner of the 2002 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Music and Lyrics), the film is a musical deconstruction of a love affair and a marriage taking place over a five year period. Jamie (Jeremy Jordan), a young, talented up-and-coming Jewish novelist falls in love with Cathy (Anna Kendrick), a Shiksa Goddess and struggling actress. Their story is told almost entirely through song. All of Cathy's songs begin at the end of their marriage and move backwards in time to the beginning of their love affair, while Jamie's songs start at the beginning of their affair and move forward to the end of their marriage. They meet in the center when Jamie proposes.

August 18th – While We're Young. From the director of The Squid and the Whale and Frances Ha comes a story starring Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts as Josh and Cornelia, a childless New York married couple in their mid-forties. As their other friends all start having children, the couple gravitates toward a young hipster couple named Jamie (Adam Driver) and Darby (Amanda Seyfried). He's an aspiring documentary filmmaker, a vocation Josh already has. Soon the older couple begins enjoying the energy they feel hanging out with the younger generation, but eventually Josh begins to suspect his new best friend might not be as straightforward and trustworthy as he thought. With Charles Grodin and Adam Horovitz.

August 25th – Far From the Madding Crowd. Based on the literary classic by Thomas Hardy, the film is the story of independent, beautiful, and headstrong Bathsheba Everdene (Carey Mulligan), who attracts three very different suitors: Gabriel Oak (Matthias Schoenaerts), a sheep farmer, captivated by her fetching willfulness; Frank Troy (Tom Sturridge), a handsome and reckless Sergeant; and William Boldwood (Michael Sheen), a prosperous and mature bachelor. This timeless story of Bathsheba's choices and passions explores the nature of relationships and love – as well as the human ability to overcome hardships through resilience and perseverance. With Juno Temple and John Neville.
