Sea Dogs Split Doubleheader with Reading

Reed Gragnani Delivers Walk-Off Single for Portland in Game One
Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (28-49) and Reading Fightin Phils (40-36) wrapped up their three-game series and split a doubleheader at Hadlock Field on Monday evening.  The Sea Dogs took game one 5-4 on a walk-off in nine innings, while Reading won game two 6-1.

Reed Gragnani delivered the game-winning, walk-off single to score Manuel Margot with one out in the bottom of the ninth.  It ended the Sea Dogs' eight-game losing streak at Hadlock Field and marked their third walk-off win of the season.

Manuel Margot posted his first three-hit game in Double-A, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and two runs scored.  Keury De La Cruz and Reed Gragnani each had two hits, one RBI, and one run apiece.

Madison Younginer picked up the win (3-3) for Portland, throwing three scoreless innings to close out the game.  Zach Eflin started for the Fightins and allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings.  Joely Rodriguez (1-1) was the losing pitcher for Reading.

Mark Leiter Jr. (W, 1-2) carried the Fightins to a 6-1 win with a complete game in game two.  Leiter
allowed seven hits, walked one and struck out two in seven innings.

Brian Pointer delivered a pinch hit home run in the fifth inning off of Simon Mercedes, his ninth of the season and fourth of the series after hitting three on Saturday.  Pointer finished 2-for-2 with a homer, RBI, and two runs scored.  Kelly Dugan went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, and Rene Garcia went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Robby Scott (L, 1-1) made a spot start and allowed two earned runs on three hits in 2.2 innings, walking one and striking out two.  Keury De La Cruz hit a solo home run (5) with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to break up the shutout.

Ryan Hanigan continued his Major League rehab assignment, catching all nine innings in game one and serving as the DH in game two.  Hanigan combined to go 2-for-6 with a double and a walk.

The homestand continues tomorrow evening as the Sea Dogs host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, first pitch comes at 7:00 PM.  Justin Haley (2-8, 4.82) takes the mound for the Sea Dogs and will be opposed by Joel Piniero (3-2, 3.59) of the Fisher Cats.  Pregame coverage begins live on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network at 6:40 PM.  Tickets are still available and can be purchased by phone at 207-879-9500 or online at seadogs.com.
