UMaine Hutchinson Center offers Financial Management for the Nonprofit Organization

Belfast. The more effectively the non-profit organization is run financially --- the more successfully it will function and sustain fiscally into the future.  The University of Maine Hutchinson Center, Belfast, has designed the certificate program in nonprofit organizational management for non-profit organization executives, staff members, and leaders to deal with contemporary issues and problems using realistic, “hands on” strategies. The various workshops encourage interactive discussion of “real world” situations and actively engage participants in quality planning, effective program/service development, creative problem solving, and issue resolution.   This certificate represents yet another of the offerings that the University of Maine Hutchinson Center has created to be responsive to the educational needs of the community.

On Friday July 20, join us to the next session in this year’s Nonprofit Management Certificate program:  Financial Management in the Nonprofit Organization. Areas to be covered in this workshop will include approaches to budgeting, necessary recordkeeping, monitoring cash flow, understanding the balance sheet, and segregating duties in a small office (safeguarding assets).

The workshop will begin at 8:30 a.m. and run until 4:00 p.m. and is being taught by Chip Bradstreet. Chip Bradstreet is Chief Financial Officer for Broadreach Family & Community Services.  He earned an MBA from the University of Maine, Orono, worked in public accounting and private industry, and has over 30 years experience in non-profit administration and financial management.

Upon completion of six of the workshops that comprise the program, individuals will earn a certificate in Non-Profit Organization Management from the University of Maine Hutchinson Center.  The remaining 2012 Nonprofit Management sessions offered this year are: August 13 & 14 (2 day program) – Writing Winning Grant Proposals; September 7 – Survival Skills in an Age of Declining Resources; and October 22– Marketing the Nonprofit Organization.

To register for this workshop or to request a copy of the complete 2012 brochure, contact Nancy Boyington at the Hutchinson Center at 338-8002 (toll free 800-753-9044) or nancyb@maine.edu. The cost for each one-day workshop is $150, and the two-day grantwriting workshop is $255.  Each workshop fee will include continental breakfast, lunch and all workshop materials.  The Hutchinson Center is located on Route 3, 80 Belmont Ave., Belfast.  FMI visit our website:  [ http://www.hutchinsoncenter]

  1. Sounds like a great thing to have, especially if you dont already have a nonprofit software that covers that area.
