‘Pedal to the Port’ Bicycle Ride on June 9th
Thomaston, Me.-Trekkers’
fourth annual Pedal to the Port bicycle ride will be held Saturday,
June 9th.
With three routes to choose from, this yearly fundraising event
offers options for bicyclists of all levels. The family-friendly
12-mile route includes views of the St. George River and is geared
for casual bikers. The 35-mile route includes a scenic stop at the
historic Marshall Point Lighthouse in the village of Port Clyde. The
45 mile route also includes ocean views from the ‘Keag and Ash
Point Drive, and is an ideal training ride for the Trek Across Maine.
All
three routes begin and end at the Oceanside West (formerly Georges
Valley) High School in Thomaston. Riders will receive a free Pedal to
the Port T-shirt and a complimentary post-ride cookout luncheon. The
registration fee is $25 per individual rider (or $20 per member of a
team of four or more), plus a minimum of $75 in pledges. Riders can

or by contacting the Trekkers office to request a mailed registration
form. Participants can also register at Oceanside West High School on
the morning of the ride, beginning at 7:45 a.m. The ride begins at
9:00 a.m.
Pedal
to the Port provides crucial financial support for Trekkers’
programming. Trekkers is a nonprofit, outdoor-based mentoring
organization that connects young people with caring adults through
expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based
education. The organization serves more than 160 local youth each
year and involves more than 100 adult volunteers from the communities
of St. George, Thomaston, Cushing, Rockland, South Thomaston and Owls
Head.
