Boothbay Region Land Trust's Eat Local Talk
Boothbay Harbor, Maine - Food is often trucked for thousands of miles before it reaches our plate, losing nutrients and taking a toll on the environment along the way. Join the Boothbay Region Land Trust on Monday, May 14th at 5:30 p.m. at the Under Currach Tavern as we investigate how to transform our diets to support foods that are grown locally. This informative presentation is courtesy of Lisa Fernandes and the Eat Local Foods Coalition of Maine.
The ELFC is a state-wide coalition that “seeks to put more Maine food on more Maine tables more often”. The thought is that in doing so, there will be greater economic benefits, local food security, enhanced health and nutrition, and a vibrant local food culture.
Lisa Fernandes is the organizer and founding member of Portland Maine Permaculture, Director of the Resilience Hub, and a student of permaculture and green design since 1992. She studied political science at Boston College and environmental Studies at the Evergreen State College while designing and implementing municipal waste reduction and recycling programs. Lisa is a gardener, Master Food Preserver, Master Composter, and has studied medicinal plants for nearly twenty years. She is currently focused on creating sustainability and resilience-building programs for the local community and region. Lisa is a 2011 recipient of the EcoMaine EcoExcellence award for her work.
The Under Currach Tavern is located at 93 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor. The restaurant features meals prepared from local foods, which will be available for purchase the night of the program for those that are interested.
The Boothbay Region Land Trust is offering this event to the public free of charge but pre-registration is required. For more information and to register, please contact the office at 633-4818 or brlt@bbrlt.org. Limit of 30 participants.
