Rockport Dance Conservatory Returns from Competition

Rockport, ME - Rockport Dance Conservatory returned Saturday with great results from their performances in the Dancers Inc Regional Dance Competition held March 16th and 17th in North Berwick, Maine.  Ten RDC students competed over the weekend and were judged by level on technique, style, and delivery of choreography and were competing against other studios from all over New England.

The Competition kicked off Friday night with Senior Solos.  Alyssa Griggs performed a contemporary solo to “Kite Song” choreographed by Kari Cameron.  This was Alyssa's first competition and she received a High Silver medal.  Moira Pieri performed a lyrical hip hop piece to "Just Lead Me," choreographed by Kari Cameron and Lyn Tessyman. Moira received a Gold medal.   Hannah Olsen performed a tap solo to "Hit That Jive Jack,” choreographed by Sally Leighton.  Hannah received a High Gold.

Saturday morning was the Junior Group Competition. RDC hip hop group "Good Feeling," choreographed by Katie Thompson received a High Gold and won 3rd place overall in the Future Star Junior Small Group Division. "Good Feeling" dancers included Alyssa Griggs, Matt Nickerson, Ellie Berez, and Annika Charland.

Saturday afternoon was full of Junior Solos. Matt Nickerson performed a hip hop solo, "Pulse," choreographed by Katie Thompson.  Matt won a High Gold and received 4th place overall in the Future Star Junior Solo Division.  Cecile Higbee-Burbank performed a jazz solo, "I Feel Pretty," choreographed by Kari Cameron and Sally Leighton.  Cecile won a High Gold and received 5th place overall in the Future Star Junior Solo Division.  Sydney Fields performed a musical theatre solo to " Wouldn't It Be Loverly," choreographed by Kari Cameron and Sally Leighton and received a High Gold.  RDC’s youngest competitor at six, Kelsey Guinn performed her first solo to "Codfish Ball," choreographed by Kari Cameron and received a High Gold.

Saturday evening finished up with the Teen and Senior Groups. "Peek-A-Boo,” choreographed by Kari Cameron received a Gold.  RDC “Peek-A-Boo” dancers included Alyssa Griggs, Franny Bray-Bateman, Hannah Olsen, and Moira Pieri.
