Merryspring to Partner with VStv for Rose Day Celebration and Party‏

Camden/Rockport, Maine - Merryspring Nature Center and new area news outlet VStv are collaborating this year to make the annual Rose Day Celebration bigger and better than ever. The event will take place starting at Merryspring on Tuesday, June 30 at 12:00 noon with a lecture, followed by a driving tour of area rose gardens, and closing with a garden reception and VStv filming at Merryspring at 4:00 pm.

A Merryspring tradition for over 20 years, Rose Day will begin with an outdoor lecture by Merryspring Vice President and rose gardener Glenn Jenks. Jenks will speak about how recent changes in the rose-growing industry have made obtaining a diverse selection of rose varieties more difficult. He will also offer tips of how to grow roses in Maine's challenging climate, including fertilization, overwintering, varieties to select, pruning tips, and pest control.

The lecture and rose tour portions of the Rose Day Celebration are part of the Spring Lecture series, sponsored by The First and Jackson Landscaping Services.

Following a Q&A, Glenn will then lead a tour of several area rose gardens. This driving tour will start at Merryspring's own rose garden, before continuing to three more beautiful, blooming rose gardens. Carpooling is encouraged for this part of the day.

Closing out the day will be a garden party and reception, beginning in the Merryspring gardens at 4:00. VStv is collaborating with the Nature Center for this free event, with catered food and free beer and wine. At 5:00 pm, VStv will film an episode of  its daily news talk show "Soup DuJour" in the Merryspring gardens, featuring Nature Center staff and frequenters.

Admission to the Rose Day lecture and tour is $5 for the general public, with free admission for members of Merryspring.

The Rose Day Celebration Party at 4:00 pm with VSTV is a community event open to everyone, free of charge. Anybody is welcome to attend.

Merryspring is a member-supported, non-profit nature education center and park located at the end of Conway Road just off Rt. 1 by the Hannaford shopping plaza in Camden. For more information, call Merryspring at 236-2239 or email info@merryspring.org .
