Haley strong outing in Portland's 3-0 win at Reading!

Reading, PA - Justin Haley (2-8) put together his finest outing of the season, tossing six scoreless frames, as the Portland Sea Dogs (26-41) beat the Reading Fightin Phils (34-32), 3-0, on Friday night in the series opener at First Energy Stadium. Portland snapped a four-game losing streak and earned their second shutout of the season.

Haley scattered five hits on two walks and one strikeout, picking up his first scoreless appearance of the season. The righty earned his first win since May 17th at New Britain.

Portland's bullpen continued their dominance, closing out the game with solid outings from John Cornely (hold), Robby Scott (hold) and Jorge Marban (save). Scott relieved Cornely in the eighth and worked out of a bases-loaded jam by retiring Cameron Perkins and Art Charles. Marban notched his third save of the season.

David Chester got Portland on the board, leading off the second inning with a solo-homer off losing pitcher Mark Leiter Jr. (0-1). The homer was the fifth for Chester, who finished 2-for-4. Leiter Jr. took the loss in his Double-A debut, giving up three runs on eighth hits over 7 IP.

Portland added a run in the third on a run-scoring groundout by Jantzen Witte and the final run in the seventh on a single by Aneury Tavarez (3-for-4).

The Sea Dogs picked up their second shutout of the season, both have been 3-0 wins at Reading.

The Sea Dogs and Fightin Phils continue their four-game series tonight at First Energy Stadium, first pitch comes at 6:35 PM.  Luis Diaz (0-5, 7.04) gets the go for the Sea Dogs against Ben Lively (4-5, 3.95) who will be making his 13th start of the season for Reading. Pre-Game coverage begins at 6:15 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network.
