Hernandez homers in Portland's 3-2 loss at Reading

Reading, PA - Reading's (35-32) pitchers retired the final 12 batters, defeating the Portland Sea Dogs (26-42), 3-2 on Saturday night at First Energy Stadium. The series is now tied at one game apiece and continues on Sunday afternoon.

Reading grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second inning off losing pitcher Luis Diaz (0-6). Brian Pointer drew a one out walk, stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error by catcher Luis Martinez. Rene Garcia blooped an RBI single to right.

The Sea Dogs answered in the third inning off Ben Lively (6-5). Cole Sturgeon drew a two-out walk and Marco Hernandez launched a two-run homer to right field, his third of the season.  Lively earned his sixth win of the season, tossing seven innings on four hits, two runs, two walks and two strikeouts.

Reading received the game-winning hit in the third inning. Kelly Dugan (single), Aaron Altherr (single) and Brock Stassi (walked) reached base to start the inning. Art Charles nailed a two-run single to right field.  Diaz worked six innings on eight hits, three runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Miguel Celestino went two scoreless in relief.

Ethan Martin earned a hold with a perfect eighth and Stephen Shackleford worked a perfect ninth for his 14th save of the season.

The Sea Dogs and Fightin Phils continue their four-game series this afternoon at First Energy Stadium, first pitch comes at 1:35 PM.  Mike Augliera (2-10, 4.67) makes his 14th start of the season for the Sea Dogs. Lefty Jesse Biddle (6-1, 3.76) gets the call for Reading. Pre-Game coverage begins at 1:15 PM on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network.
