Winter Storm Watch Issued For Coastal, Downeast, Lower Eastern Maine Saturday Into Saturday Night

Rockland, Maine - There is growing confidence that a Nor'easter will hit the area this weekend from Saturday into Saturday night with winter storm watches issued. How much snow will fall really depends on where you live in Maine as you could see between 6 to 12 or very little.

According to Weather Channel, Rockland area could see between 5 and 8 inches of snow Saturday night with a chance of it starting as rain/snow mix during the first 2 hours. Portland and Bangor area could see between 3 and 5 inches. Ellsworth and Calais area are predicted to get anywhere from 6 to 11 inches.

Winds for this storm could range from 20 to 25 mph Saturday night, The winds won't be as strong as the low pressure will be well out to sea.

According to the National Weather Service, heavy snow and wind possible for central, coastal and
downeast areas late Saturday into Sunday morning. Low pressure will lift out of the mid Atlantic region on Saturday. The low pressure will rapidly intensify as it moves across the gulf of Maine waters Saturday night and over Nova Scotia on Sunday. This storm could bring heavy snowfall and gusty winds to central, coastal and downeast Maine.

  SNOW MAY THEN BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES...ESPECIALLY DURING THE
  AFTERNOON AND EVENING HOURS. THE SNOW SHOULD TAPER OFF AND END
  AROUND MIDNIGHT SATURDAY NIGHT.

* IMPACTS...THE POSSIBILITY OF HEAVY SNOW WOULD BRING TRAVEL
  DIFFICULTIES. THE SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AND WET FOR A TIME NEAR THE
  COAST AND POSSIBLY CAUSE SCATTERED POWER OUTAGES THERE.

* WINDS...NORTH 10 TO 15 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 25 MPH.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE UPPER 20S TO LOWER 30S.

* VISIBILITIES...A HALF MILE OR LESS POSSIBLE.
