Wintery Mix Moving In: Drive Safely

Maine - That first slippery storm of the winter season, when we all have to remember how to drive, will be moving into Maine Wednesday afternoon into Thursday.

The National Weather Service has posted Winter Weather Advisories for much of Maine and Wind Advisories from the midcoast to downeast.

The NWS is calling for a mixed bag of snow, sleet and freezing rain, beginning late Wednesday afternoon in southern Maine and lingering till noon on Thursday in northern and eastern sections.

While snowfall is not expected to be heavy -- 1 to 3 inches -- the mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain will lead to very slippery roads.

Along the coast, expect northeast winds from 20 to 30 mph this evening, with gusts to 45 or 50. This could bring down some tree limbs, and lead to scattered power outages.

With this first wintry mess of the season, be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibility. Watch out for "the other guy" -- and don't **be** the "other guy!" And if you don't remember all those winter driving tips, [check these out from MaineDOT] (http://maine.gov/mdot/winterdriving/drivingtips.htm).
