Rockland Police Message To Residents Ahead Of Impending Major Nor'easter Tuesday

Rockland, Maine - The City of Rockland Police Department has shared this following message on their Facebook in regards to Tuesday's impending major Nor'easter.

We have severe weather coming Tuesday! Make your plans and preparations now so you can stay home and safe during the blizzard and heavy snow accumulations. Driving in this type of weather is very hazardous and unpredictable, if you can camp out at home and ride out the storm there, you will be safer and happier! Get some movies, some popcorn and make it a family fun day, at home! If you think you will have to venture out, (we recommend you don't) please use extreme caution, winter driving is dangerous! . We will be out there, so rest assure if you need us we will be there!

...STRONG COASTAL STORM TO AFFECT THE AREA MONDAY NIGHT INTO TUESDAY

.A WEAK AREA OF LOW PRESSURE WILL EXIT THE MID ATLANTIC COAST MONDAY AND RAPIDLY DEVELOP SOUTH OF NEW ENGLAND. THIS LOW PRESSURE WILL STRENGTHEN SIGNIFICANTLY OFF THE SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND COAST BY TUESDAY MORNING. SNOW WILL MOVE INTO THE AREA FROM SOUTH TO NORTH LATE MONDAY INTO EARLY TUESDAY...AND WILL LIKELY BE HEAVY AT TIMES DURING THE DAY TUESDAY. AT THIS TIME THERE REMAINS SOME UNCERTAINTY WITH EXACT TRACK...SO THE LOCATION OF HEAVIEST AMOUNTS COULD SHIFT IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS. WINDS MAY ALSO BECOME QUITE GUSTY ALONG THE COAST...AND POTENTIALLY PRODUCE A BRIEF PERIOD OF NEAR-BLIZZARD OR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 12 TO 16 INCHES.
* TIMING...SNOW WILL BEGIN LATE MONDAY IN NEW HAMPSHIRE...AND BY EARLY TUESDAY FOR MIDCOAST MAINE. SNOW MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES DURING THE DAY TUESDAY. SNOW WILL WIND DOWN LATE TUESDAY...BUT LINGER INTO WEDNESDAY.

* IMPACTS...SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LOW VISIBILITIES WILL LEAD TO DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS. INCREASING WINDS ALONG THE COAST COULD BRING A PERIOD OF NEAR-BLIZZARD OR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS FOR A TIME.
* WINDS...NORTH 20 TO 30 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.
* TEMPERATURES...8 TO 19 ABOVE.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

Forecast for Rockland according to the National Weather Service out of Gray, Maine.

Monday Night Snow, mainly after 1am. Low around 8. Wind chill values as low as -10. Blustery, with a northeast wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Tuesday Snow. The snow could be heavy at times. High near 18. Windy, with a north wind around 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Tuesday Night Snow likely, mainly before 3am. Cloudy, with a low around 14. Windy. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

The Weather Channel is saying Rockland could see 19 or 29 inches of snow.
