Stay Safe and Help a Neighbor Weather the Storm

With a major winter storm bearing down on Maine, Maine Emergency Management Agency is reminding Mainers to put safety first and help their neighbors weather the storm.

"We haven't had a winter storm like this in a while." MEMA Director Bruce Fitzgerald said. "Everybody needs to respect the power of this one, and stay safe." The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for the entire State, and Blizzard Warnings along the coast Some coastal flooding is also possible.

MaineDOT is recommending essential travel only during the storm, as high winds and heavy snow
will combine for near zero visibility at times.

Fitzgerald said the State Emergency Operations Center would be open throughout the storm to monitor conditions and coordinate any State assistance that might be needed.

MEMA recommends:

* Keep track of the forecast and timing of the storm in your area. Key information sources include: * [National Weather Service Gray](http://www.weather.gov/gyx ) * [NWS Gray on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/NWSGray ) * [National Weather Service Caribou](http://www.weather.gov/car ) * [NWS Caribou on Facebook](https://www.facebook.com/NWSCaribou ) * [NWS Gray Emergency Managers Self-Briefing Page](http://www.weather.gov/gyx/emhome ) * [NWS Caribou Emergency Managers Self-Briefing Page](http://www.weather.gov/car/emhome ) * [MaineDOT Travel Information Service](http://511maine.gov/ ) * MEMA Emergency and Safety Information: [MEMA Website](http://www.maine.gov/mema ) and [Maine Prepares](http://www.maineprepares.com ) * Check on neighbors and friends who may not be as able to weather the storm safely * If you lose power, use generators or alternate heat sources safely * Run generators outside only, 15 feet away from doors or windows, with exhaust pointing away from the house

"Watch for the most up-to-date forecast to stay informed and keep yourself safe, and lend a hand to a neighbor," said Governor Paul R. LePage. "That's how we can always weather a Maine storm."
