Introduction to Bee Keeping

Rockland, Maine - Peter Lammert,  a long time member of the Knox-Lincoln Beekeepers Association, will give an introduction to honey bee keeping at the Rockland Public Library on Thursday, February 5 at 6:00 PM.

Lammert, who is one of a cadre of bee school teachers, started keeping honey bees 11 years ago after taking a course on beekeeping ,sponsored by the Knox Lincoln Beekeepers Association, and as many people do, got caught up with the wonders of the honey bee which is the only insect that makes food harvested by man. He operates Elm Street Apiary in Thomaston.

Lammert will give an overview of the equipment needed to keep honey bees as well as where to get honey bees, how to hive them and take care of them for the year.

Knox Lincoln Beekeepers will again have a 6 week honey bee school starting Tuesday evening March 3rd at the American Legion Hall in Thomaston. On one Saturday students can venture up to Windsor to Humble Abodes honey bee wooden ware factory and get the hive parts that are needed to keep honey bees and then the following Saturday there will be a hive assembly day at the hall.

The Rockland Public Library is located at 80 Union St. in Rockland. This program is free and open to the public. Lammert can be reached at 691-2900 for more information.
