Thomaston, Maine - Twenty six 7th grade students participated in Trekkers Day on January 10, 2015.  Trekkers Day is an opportunity for 7th graders to preview the Trekkers program by participating in an entire day of Trekkers-type activities. This year’s participants were students from Rockland District Middle School, Thomaston Grammar School and St. George School. The daylong program was led by Program Managers Hannah Tannebring and Alaina Ennamorati, along with nine student leaders, two adult volunteers and two program staff members. The group was separated into three teams to make the day run smoothly.

The day began at Oceanside High School West with a series of large and small group activities for
students to get to know one other before heading to Camp Kieve in Nobleboro. The activities there included many of Trekkers’ famous team-building and problem solving initiatives, as well as low rope and team initiatives led by Camp Kieve staff. The students and mentors ended the day by going bowling at Oakland Park Bowling Lanes in Rockport.

The purpose of Trekkers Day is to offer interested students a first-hand sampling of what Trekkers is all about before the official enrollment process begins in early February. For all 7th graders who are interested in being a Trekker this year, there will be a Trekkers Community Meeting on Wednesday, February 4th from 5:30 – 7:00 pm at Oceanside High School West. At this meeting, applications will be handed out, and participants will learn more about the program.  The purpose of this meeting is to inform students and their families about the overall program, explain Trekkers’ selection process and share how students become eligible to participate. There are 30 spots available in the 7th grade program. Students did not have to attend Trekkers Day to apply for the core Trekkers program.

For more information about the community meeting, or to learn more about the Trekkers program, please call 207-594-5095.
