Citywide Parking Ban still in effect through Wednesday at 6AM
No solid waste collection Today and Wednesday
Portland, Maine - City of Portland officials continue to urge residents to stay off the streets through the duration of the blizzard conditions.Heavy snow and strong winds are creating dangerous travel conditions and extremely poor visibility, even for plow truck operators and emergency vehicles. People should remain at home and travel only if necessary. Conditions also make it hard to see pedestrians, so please use caution even when walking and remain at home if possible.
"We're glad that people are heeding our warnings and staying off the streets and at home," said Portland Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director Jerry LaMoria. "This is making it much easier for the more than 40 plow crews currently handling operations."
The City would like to thank citizens for compliance with the citywide parking ban. Compliance has been great thus far, but please remember that it remains in effect until 6AM Wednesday. Tow operations will continue throughout the day when necessary. A reminder that there is no solid waste collection today and on Wednesday. Collection will resume next week.
People should be prepared for the possibility of scattered power outages. If this does happen, please remember about generator safety. General fire safety tips can be found at www.portlandfire.com.
Residents should keep checking the Metro website to see when service will resume tomorrow. The same goes for travel at the Portland International Jetport.

The City of Portland plows an estimated 100 miles of sidewalks including Portland's Downtown District. City ordinances require that adjacent property owners clear snow and ice from sidewalks. While it might take more time to do so after this storm, residents and business owners are reminded to please do their part with clearing sidewalks.
