UMA Bangor to host Hip Hop: Art, Culture, and Politics event featuring local talent on Nov.12.

Bangor, Maine - The American Studies program at UMA Bangor is sponsoring Hip Hop event, Hip Hop: Art, Culture, and Politics on November 12th from 5:30–8:30pm in Eastport Hall.

Named after the American studies/Music course being taught this fall by Dr. Sarah Hentges, the Hip Hop: Art, Culture, and Politics event will provide background and knowledge about Hip Hop as well as showcase the talents of UMA students and community members.

Nick Bear, an Interdisciplinary Studies student intern and spoken word/rap artist and poet, will moderate a panel of Hip Hop experts from 5:30-6:30pm. Panel members include Portland's Lady Essence, Bangor's Al Lloyd Trott, and Lewiston's biggest Hip Hop head, Ben McGray.

Following the panel, from 6:30-7:00pm, is an informal "Grub n' Gab" where attendees can eat some good food and talk to panelists and performers.  From 7:00-8:30pm will be a variety of performances including break dancers, spoken word artists, rappers, and more!
