"Here Comes Santa"

It is bitterly cold as we arrive at the Middle Pier in Rockland Maine, but we are not alone as hundreds of families from all directions are converging on this spot. There is excitement in the air in spite of the cold and wind and one word is heard from all, “Santa.”

This is the start of Rockland's Festival of Lights, the arrival of Santa. After a reading of “Twas The Night Before Christmas” by Don Carrigan we see the Coast Guard boat appear carrying Santa and Mrs. Claus. After making their way up from the boat Santa launches into the crowd like a presidential candidate. The pair work their way up to Main Street where Santa has established his holiday workshop where a long line of children of all ages waits for their few minutes with the man in red.
