$135,000 for Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration Project
Collins, King Announce $135,000 for Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration Project
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Susan Collins and Angus King today announced that the Nobleboro Historical Society has been awarded a $135,000 grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to support the Final Phase of the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration project.
“Fish ladders play an indispensable role maintaining the balance of our marine ecosystem as well as the health of our lakes, rivers, and streams,” said Senators Collins and King in a joint statement. “This grant will help support our fishing communities by strengthening the local food chains that they depend on. Enabling alewives, and other feeder fish, to access spawning grounds is an important step in that process. We are pleased to support the community effort to restore and improve this historic fish ladder. It is a wonderful local attraction where families from all over Maine can experience one of nature’s most spectacular events when the fish run every spring.”
