Before joining the greater Lewiston-Auburn medical community, she worked as a traveling surgeon at hospitals in Florida, Maine, Michigan, New Mexico, New York, and Washington. She has volunteered her surgical skills at clinics in Haiti, Mexico, Niger, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Papua New Guinea.
A graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Mass., Withers earned her medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, N.Y.
She served a surgical residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center Department in New York City. While she was completing her residency training, she was recognized with The Columbia University College of Medicine’s 2006 Arnold P. Gold Foundation Humanism and Excellence in Teaching Award.
Withers completed fellowship training in trauma surgery and surgical critical care at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Fla.
She is certified in general surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery. She is also certified in Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Advanced Trauma Life Support.
Withers is a member of the Society of Critical Care Medicine and the Associate Society of the American College of Surgeons.
She has coauthored scholarly articles published in various professional journals, and has made presentations at a number of emergency care conclaves.
She is practicing in association with general and trauma surgeons Christina M. Bertocchi, M.D., Shiraz Farooq, M.D., Larry O. Hopperstead, M.D., Wayne E. Mashas, M.D., Rajeev N. Puri, M.D., James F.
