Mid Coast Hospital Nationally Recognized as
“Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®”
Brunswick, ME — Mid Coast Hospital was named Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The Joint Commission recognized the hospital for exemplary performance in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for conditions like heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care.
“This designation is a tribute to the high quality, compassionate care that Mid Coast Hospital provides,” said Lois Skillings, President and CEO of Mid Coast Health Services. “We are so thankful for the hard work and dedication of the medical staff, nurses and other clinicians who care for our patients with such high standards of patient satisfaction, quality, and safety.”
Mid Coast Hospital is one of just 11 hospitals in Maine earning the distinction of Top Performer on Key Quality Measures for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The ratings are based on an aggregation of data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.
In order to receive this designation, Mid Coast Hospital achieved a cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures. Each accountability measure represents an evidence-based practice.
“Mid Coast Hospital and all the Top Performer hospitals have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” says Mark R. Chassin, M.D., FACP, M.P.P., M.P.H., president and chief executive officer, The Joint Commission.
Mid Coast Hospital already has the distinction of being the only Joint Commission Accredited hospital in Midcoast Maine and one of only five Joint Commission certified Primary Stroke Centers in the state, indicating that it has an established, formal program to treat stroke patients effectively and consistently with the goal of improving care and outcomes.
James P. Rines, MD, President of Mid Coast Hospital’s medical staff commented, “Mid Coast Hospital’s dedication to excellence and quality is reflected in our commitment to the Joint Commission accreditation process.”
