DOWNTOWN BANGOR BUSINESSES PARTNER FOR HOLIDAY SEASON

Businesses Welcome Visitors to Discover Downtown Bangor with Three Exciting Events
Bangor, Maine - Downtown Bangor retailers are joining forces to encourage holiday shoppers to "Shop, Eat and Enjoy Downtown this Holiday Season." The local businesses are kicking off the shopping season with an Early Bird Sale on Saturday, November 2nd. Additionally, shoppers can avoid the long lines and stress often associated with the mall area by joining in on the Second Annual Plaid Friday and continuation of Small Business Saturday.

During these three events, many of the shops in Downtown will be offering sales and discounts. The holiday season jump starts with the Early Bird Sale on Saturday, November 2nd. Special discounts are offered to those wishing to check names of the list before the busy season begin. The name Plaid Friday (Friday, November 29th) celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. Plaid Friday is the fun and enjoyable alternative to the big box store "Black Friday", and is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays. Help us celebrate by wearing plaid while shopping in Downtown on Friday, November 29th.

Small Business Saturday began in 2010 by American Express to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. Last year, over 100 million people came out across the nation to shop at independently-owned small businesses on the day.

"These events enhance the shoppers experience and introduce them to many businesses that they may not have otherwise known about," says Jason Bird, Downtown Coordinator. "The businesses in Downtown offer the complete package: special, unique gifts for your loved ones; delicious, locally-owned eateries, and an experience that the whole family can enjoy together."

The Downtown Bangor Partnership promotes and markets activities that enhance the distinctive identity of Downtown Bangor, encouraging retention and growth of commercial, residential, and cultural life within the downtown district.
