Portland, Maine - The tree that signals the start of the holiday season in Portland will arrive in Monument Square on Thursday, November 21 around 10 am. The beautiful 55 foot Blue Spruce was donated by Heather Bridges of 30 McLean Street, South Portland.
"After an exhaustive search of Greater Portland, we found the perfect tree in South Portland. It will look spectacular when adorned with lights in Monument Square," says Jeff Tarling, City Arborist.
Crews from the Forestry Section of Portland Department of Public Services will prepare the tree for transportation to Monument Squares starting at 9:00 AM from 30 McLean Street. Keely Crane Services and Shaw Brothers Construction have donated staff, crane and transportation services to make this project possible. Assistance is provided by the City of South Portland, Portland Police and Portland Parking Control.
The tree will begin its trip down Main Street in South Portland to Veteran's Bridge, through Commercial Street and up Franklin Street, entering downtown via Congress Street and arriving at its new home in Monument Square around 930-10 AM.
