Northport, Maine - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine (BBBSMM) will host a Volunteer Thank You Dinner to recognize all the School-Based Coordinators who volunteer for Big Brothers Big Sisters. The event is being held on July 30th at the Point Lookout Resort and Conference Center, which is hosting the event and providing the meal for the volunteers.
School-Based Coordinators are screened, interviewed and trained school staff and community volunteers who supervise weekly mentoring between high school and college age Bigs with their elementary and middle school age Littles at a local school one day each week. Each school mentoring location has 1-2 coordinators that attend, oversee and supervise the weekly match meetings to ensure match quality and child safety. Coordinators arrive early each week to greet all Bigs and Littles, ensure set up and clean-up of meeting supplies and snacks, facilitate group match activities if appropriate, and coach Bigs as they navigate their relationships with their Littles.
Having community members serve as School-Based Coordinators allows Big Brothers Big Sisters to reach more youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine changes the lives of 560 children facing adversity in Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset, and Waldo Counties for the better, forever, by providing strong and enduring, professionally supported 1-to-1 relationships. Children in the program have higher aspirations, greater confidence, better relationships, avoid risky behaviors, and achieve educational success.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Mid-Maine is currently looking for new volunteers to serve as School-Based Coordinators at several schools throughout Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Somerset, and Waldo Counties.
