Multi-media Performance, The Hubble Cantata, Makes its World Premiere, Featuring Hubble Space Images, July 25

A new music thread is evident throughout the summer for Bay Chamber Concerts, but nowhere more spectacularly than in the concerts on July 25th and 26th. The concert on July 25th includes the World Premiere of a new piece commissioned by Bay Chamber Concerts to mark Artistic Director Manuel Bagorro’s first season, The Hubble Cantata.  A multi-media, multi-sensory experience, The Hubble Cantata brings together newly released Hubble images with music created by high-flying composer Paola Prestini, librettist Royce Vavrek, film by Carmen Kordas and the recorded voice of astrophysicist, Mario Livio. Two concerts on July 26th include multi-media works for solo violin and electronics performed by Cornelius Dufallo and an assumption-exploding program of new music performed by ICE. Performances by the sensational trio miXt, (Jose-Franch Ballester, Benjamin Beilman and Ran Dank), and David Krakauer that include additional contemporary repertoire establish this season as the place in Maine to experience new music.
The incredibly rich body of much-loved standard repertoire informs new ideas in chamber music. Bagorro’s summer program offers an invitation to revel in cherished familiarity as well as new experiences.
“Bay Chamber Concerts is broadening its musical offerings, but we’re also looking for ways to enhance the quality of the experience for our audiences,” said Bagorro. “Our outdoor concerts, street interactions, and the performance of Poulenc’s opera in a barn at Brewster Point all celebrate our magical Midcoast setting. Our new Friday night concerts at the restored Union Hall in Rockport, offer an opportunity for audiences to connect even more intimately with the music, sitting at cafĂ© tables and enjoying a glass of wine while listening.”
