| Alice Limoges will be performing on November 3rd, 2012 at Rock City |
Algorithm:
Algorithm is a new electro-acoustic duo comprising Mike Whitehead, trumpet and fluglehorn, and Tom Luther, keyboards. The basic form of the group is supplemented by substantial use of electronic instruments, both live and sequenced. Both musicians are experienced jazz performers, and use their improvising skills in the context of modern electronica and ambient music. The music itself is an amalgam of improvised material and electronic soundscapes crafted by both performers.
Ann Delaney:
Ann Delaney learned the great standards of the 1920s-1950s on piano when she was 12 and starting singing them in public in her mid-20s. She has worked with jazz trios, quartets, big bands, and most recently, The Novel Jazz Septet. Her influences include Sarah Vaughan, Irene Kral, and Johnny Hartman.
Pitch Black Ribbons:
Brothers Clint and Cody Phipps have been playing and writing music together since they could talk walk and juggle flaming bowling pins. As their river of a thousand-or-so original songs kept getting deeper and wide Pitch Black Ribbons is the acoustic duo that has evolved.
OUTLOOK Jazz:
Outlook (formerly Mike Whitehead & Friends) is a jazz band featuring Mike Whitehead on trumpet/flugel, Xar Adelberg on bass, Tom Luther on piano, and Mark Barnette on drums. Outlook celebrates the music of Wayne Shorter, Tom Harrell, Tomasz Stanko, Joe Henderson and others. The band also features compositions by band members. In exploring their own deep connection to the pieces and each other, Outlook strives to bring the audience into a deeper experience of the jazz repertory.
Alice Limoges:
Alice's acoustic guitar and ukelele chart new territory, introducing unique chords and progressions. With catchy hooks and bridges, the melodies fuse jazz, bluegrass and folk influences into an original sound. The poetic lyrics are thoughtfully courageous. They transform the listener into a traveler on a journey through love, loss, wonder, resolve and hope.
We hope you can come out to these performances at Rock City Cafe in Rockland, Maine. Rock City Cafe is located at 316 Main Street in Rockland, Maine.
Rock City Café began its life in 1992 as Second Read Books & Coffee, featuring used and new books and a busy coffeehouse, As the first coffeehouse/bookstore in Maine, Second Read quickly became an anchor of the downtown cultural scene. In 1999, they began roasting their own coffee under the brand of Rock City Coffee. By 2005, we had changed Second Read's name to Rock City Books & Coffee.
In the spring of 2011, they decided it was time to make another transformation. After selling the book portion of the business to employee Lacy Simons, who subsequently opened Hello Hello Books, they opened the new Rock City Café in a building next door to their former location. The Café is still a bustling gathering place for conversation, meetings, lunch, art and music, but we are now open during the evening, featuring a menu of delicious small plates, beer & wine, and music.
