Bangor, Maine - General James Campbell and First Lady Ann LePage will attend the official ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open the new aircraft hangar at the 101st Air Refueling Wing Bangor Air National Guard Base on Friday. General Campbell and First Lady Ann LePage will join other distinguished guests including Senator Susan Collins and Congressman Michael Michaud.
Brigadier General James Campbell, The Adjutant General of the Maine National Guard said today, "Every day since 9/11, we have had members of the 101st Air Refueling Wing deployed around the world in support of their strategic mission and protecting our national interests. They also have responded to multiple stateside missions in support of the security of our country. The construction of this state of the art hangar not only has a direct impact on the mission readiness of the 101st Air Refueling Wing but also enhances their proven capabilities of guarding America at home and defending freedom worldwide."
“This new hangar will provide these brave men and women with the resources they need to provide impeccable service to the people of our great State of Maine, and the United States of America,” said First Lady Ann LePage. “Each and every one of our service members has made tremendous sacrifice for all of us here at home, and I am pleased to see this new facility which will ensure quality service of our aircrafts, and the aircrafts of other nations,” continued the First Lady.
This event marks the end of a six year long effort to bring the aircraft hangar to the Air Guard Base. Construction on the $18 million dollar facility began in November 2010, and was completed over the summer. The facility is now fully operational, and will replace the Unit’s existing hangar that was built in 1954. The existing hangar supported maintenance activities on the F-89J Scorpion and F101B Voodoo fighter jets, and later converted to provide services for the KC-135R Stratotanker.
