Augusta, Maine - Governor Paul R. LePage and First Lady Ann M. LePage will host the Second Annual Blaine House Food Drive. The events will take place on three consecutive Saturdays, throughout the months of October and November, beginning on Saturday, October 27, 2012. The Blaine House will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit the Blaine House where they can tour the house, enjoy light refreshments, and meet the Governor and the First Lady. Attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items, which will be donated to Good Shepherd Food Bank at the end of the three week food drive.
“The holidays are quickly approaching with the winter months, and it is important that we reach out to those in our communities who have hit a rough path in their lives,” said Governor LePage. “In these tough financial times, many families are struggling to make ends meet. I have been in their shoes before. The First Lady and I are happy to open the Blaine House and do what we can to help those Mainers who are in need,” continued the Governor.
“Good Shepherd Food Bank is very thankful to have the support of the Governor and his family, along with all the community members who will make donations during the Blaine House food drives,” said Kristen Miale, president of the Food Bank. “As we prepare for the long winter ahead, the Food Bank is working to make sure we’re able to provide an ongoing supply of high quality food items to our 600 hunger relief partners across the State. These food drives will certainly help us reach that goal.”
Last year, the Governor and the First Lady hosted a similar food drive, and worked with Good Shepherd Food Bank to identify three food banks in need of assistance. Those shelters were in Alfred, Ellsworth and Presque Isle. This year, the Governor will donate all of the food to the Good Shepherd Food Bank and they will determine which communities will benefit the most from the contributions.
