"Haunted" Home Energy Talk at Rockland Library November 13‏

Rockland, Maine - On TUESDAY NOVEMBER 13th at 6:30 PM, The Rockland Library presents a HOME-ENERGY TALK co-sponsored with Green Sneakers.

The Green Sneakers Midcoast Project and the Green Sneakers Teens will make a tongue-in-cheek presentation of their “Haunted House,” a dollhouse converted to demonstrate the many ways a home can be wasting energy. The model will be set up to show how building systems operate. Given the presence of pressure differences and holes, air and heat will pour out of the top of the structure, sucking air and moisture in at the lower levels. The presenters will explain that without efficiency knowledge, homeowners face a gauntlet of “haunting energy bills, phantom loads, the specters of mold and mildew, hoary ice dams, frost spiders” and more. The Green Sneakers Teens will be on hand, hamming it up in the spirit of the season.
The intention is to present important information in a light and enjoyable manner. Attendees may sign up for the free, Green Sneakers Volunteer led home energy efficiency evaluation, and take home flyers on ways to address efficiency issues. The Group’s “smart energy” message is that increasing the home’s energy efficiency saves money and increases the safety, health, comfort, and durability of the home, while stimulating the local economy and relieving the carbon emission pressures on the environment. With fossil fuel prices and impact on the rise, what could make more sense?

Green Sneakers is a successful neighbor-to-neighbor home energy project created by Maine Partners for Cool Communities, which is a collaboration of the Sierra Club-Maine Chapter, Maine Council of Churches, and Physicians for Social Responsibility-Maine. The partnership works with communities and their citizens throughout Maine to implement municipal and neighborhood strategies to solve global warming and improve air quality. The Project has been funded through grants, donations, and partner support.
