Ellsworth, Maine - “The Tempest” makes its premier at The Grand on Saturday, November 10th at 1pm as the New York Metropolitan Opera series of high-definition simulcast performances continue. Composer Thomas Adès conducts the Met premiere of his own operatic adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic magical story “The Tempest”Saturday, November 10th at 1pm with an approximate running time of 2 hours and 41 minutes. “The Tempest” will encore at The Grand on Thursday, November 29th, at 6:00pm.
Adès collaborates with director Robert Lepage (The Met’s Ring Cycle) and Ex Machina to create an operatic version of Shakespeare’s original play. The New York Times calls Thomas Adès’s masterpiece “one of the most inspired, audacious and personal operas to have come along in years.” Robert Lepage’s fantastical production offers a superb cast, headed by the charismatic baritone Simon Keenlyside as Prospero. The Financial Times lauds the performance’s “rare virtuosity… Keenlyside sang with sensitive force.”
Other cast members include soprano Audrey Luna as Ariel, tenor Alan Oke as Caliban, tenor Alek Shrader as Ferdinand and mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard as Miranda.
