Augusta, Maine - While the weather may be too cold for tartan kilts and knee socks, the Maine State Library is hosting an upcoming program that is a must see for anyone interested in learning about their Scottish roots.
On Thursday, January 22 at 10:00 AM, Maine genealogist and librarian BJ Jamieson will give a talk: Genealogy in Scotland - the Basics that will help attendees learn about available resources for individuals tracing their family history in Scotland.
Ms. Jamieson holds a Master of Science in Library Science from Clarion University of Pennsylvania and is currently enrolled in a genealogical studies program at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow Scotland.
"According to the 2010 Census, Maine has the highest concentration of people of Scottish ancestry in the nation," said Maine State Library genealogist, Emily Schroeder. "This is a great opportunity for those folks to learn more about their family history."
The presentation will take place during the regularly scheduled Maine State Library Genealogy Club meeting at the Maine State Library. The public is welcome to attend and refreshments will be served.
The Maine State Library Genealogy Club promotes interest in genealogy, celebrates ancestral history and works to share best practice strategies for family research. The group meets monthly at the Maine State Library and is always welcoming new members.
The Maine State Library is home to the largest genealogy collection in the state as well as town histories and published vital records for towns in Maine and a good deal of New England, materials on the Maritime Provinces of Canada, and genealogy reference materials.
