Fourth Thursday Film Series at the Rockland Public Library

Rockland, Maine - Join film buff and Erika Pfander of  Thomaston in 2015 for “Pfander’s Favorite Films” (under two hours in length) on the fourth Thursday of the  month at 6:00 PM in the Community Room at the Rockland Public Library.  Pfander studied theater in New York and founded the Chamber Theatre of Maine in Thomaston.

The series begins with the 1987 Academy Award winning Danish Film “Babette’s Feast” directed by Gabriel Axel. The film tells the story of Babette, a refugee from France's civil war, who changes life for two pious sisters and other residents of their tiny hamlet. Before long, Babette has convinced them to try something other than boiled codfish and ale bread-- a gourmet French meal! Her feast scandalizes the elders, except for the visiting General. Just who is this strangely talented Babette, who has terrified this pious town with the prospect of losing their souls for enjoying too much earthly pleasure?

The Rockland Library is located at 80 Union St.  The program is sponsored by the Friends of the Rockland Library and is free and open to the public.
