Trekkers Week Program Kicks Off

Thomaston, Maine - Trekkers will be holding its third annual
Trekkers Week program next week for 7th grade students attending St. George School. Led by Program Manager Emily Carver, this fun-filled week will give students a chance to experience a sneak preview of life as a Trekker, where they will participate in activities similar to the ones that are part of Trekkers’ six-year core programming.

“Trekkers Week is an incredible way to do what we love to do—connect kids to each other and to the caring adults in their community while getting them outside the experience of their everyday routine,” said Carver.

Monday will kick off the five-day, action-packed week on the climbing wall at Camp Kieve in Nobleboro. Students will also snap photos of the fall foliage during a “mini-Photo Trek” excursion on Clark Island, have an opportunity to volunteer in their community, and take to the bowling lanes at Oakland Park Lanes in Rockport. There will also be plenty of Trekkers-style games to close out the week.

Trekkers will be offering 7th grade students from Thomaston Grammar School and Rockland District Middle School an opportunity to take part in a similar Trekkers Week in January. The 40 available core program spots for all 7th grade students from the communities of RSU #13 will be opening after the New Year.

Trekkers is a non-profit outdoor-based mentoring program that connects young people with caring adults through expeditionary learning, community service and adventure-based education. Trekkers’ serves the communities of St. George, Owls Head, Cushing, South Thomaston, Thomaston, and Rockland. Seventh through twelfth grade students meet throughout the year to design their expedition around five educational components: community service, cultural awareness, wilderness exploration, environmental awareness and adventure-based education. Trekkers’ yearlong programming culminates in a 3-14 day educational expedition within the continental United States.
